And Now We Are on Fire

As much of the Colorado agricultural community is aware, Governor Polis is making an outrage, mockery, and fool of himself and the office he represents. From his constant disapproval to his most recent stunt to further turn a blind shoulder to the farmers and ranchers of this state, Polis is declaring March 20th as “Meatout Day”. In other words he has further condemned the particular vegan and vegetarian movements that have shown only hate and violence to those of the livestock industry. If one can remember correctly, in September of 2019, Governor Polis was urging the livestock and meat industry to start transitioning to meatless options such as that of the antagonistic “Impossible Burger” which found its way onto the menu at the Burger King around the same time. Read between the lines, it is safe to say that the real future of Colorado agriculture is not safe in the hands of Jared Polis.
Let this be a reminder to all: Colorado contributes $3.8 Billion in cattle and calves, nearly $900 million in dairy products, $577 million in corn, and $363 million in wheat each and every year, not to mention that Colorado is ranked third in the nation for sheep and lambs. This state is ranked 7th in the nation for the production of meat animals which feeds the mouths for millions across the nation. This allows for the state of Colorado to employ 426,530 hard-working individuals each and every year. With that economical impact, it is rather hard to up and do away with our industry.

With an office like governor, it should be expected that the biggest demand is that the occupant should not only be preserving what the state has to offer, protecting the commodities that enrich the state’s economy, strengthening the state’s independence while still holding true to the country’s constitution, but also being the greatest representative to the citizens of that state. It is a given that nobody is perfect, however, at what point do we, the citizens of Colorado say enough is enough and call on Polis to either change his way to best represent us or to relieve him of his duties to the office of governor? Does he know that the mawkish ways he tries to demean the agricultural industry is only depleting his approval ratings and going to have adverse effects on the overall economic health of the state? Agriculturalists find it absolutely bigotry and foolish.
Governor Polis, we call on you to change your ways. We have been unphased by your remarks and remained quiet when we could have sought to overthrow you. However, in the light of some of your most recent actions we cannot help but feel that you are against us and have unearth deceit for the agriculture industry here in the state of Colorado. You may have your votes in the democratic counties and regions of the state secured. Although it should be kept in the back of your mind that the farmers and ranchers of this state are outraged by the political actions that you have taken. No more will we be laughing stock in your game, no more will be quiet about the vision of Colorado that you seek to be most perfect. Meatless alternatives, choking out agriculture in Weld county specifically, calling halts on oil and gas just infuriate us! Yes, we are watching and listening. No violence will be had from our kind, but we have reached a point where we will be heard for what we are so passionate about. We are the gasoline, you are the match and now we are on fire! All actions have consequences, just be wary of the path you are taking.
